About Uptown
Uptown is the broad section of the east bank between the French Quarter and the Jefferson Parish line, a mix of houses and small commercial property with a great deal of 19th-century architecture. Much of it is in the Uptown New Orleans Historic District.
The federal Uptown New Orleans Historic District runs roughly from Lowerline Avenue to Louisiana Avenue, leaving out Carrollton, the Garden District, the Irish Channel, Central City and the Lower Garden District, which have historic districts of their own.
